Looking at the numbers, handheld games started at 11 billion in 2000 and reached almost 18 billion in 2006. In contrast, Console games fluctuated over the years compared to other kinds of digital games, starting with 6 billion and figures stood at 4 billion in 2003 and 2004. In 2006, console games demonstrated the lowest sales rates with almost 3 billion.
On the other hand, online games and mobile phone games expanded too fast. The online games jumped from almost 1 billion in 2001 to 10 billion in 2006. Although mobile phone games the last entered to the market, it only lagged behind handheld gaming in terms of sales figures in 2005.
