The chart highlights the number of mobile phones sold worldwide by the five most popular companies in the years 2009, 2011, and 2013.
Overall, it can be seen that there were considerable rises in sales for two manufacturers, Apple and Samsung; however, the sales of Nokia saw a substantial fall over the period in question. Another interesting point is that Nokia was the most popular brand in 2009, but in 2013 Samsung sold more than the others.
In 2009, Nokia sold just under 450 million units, which was twice the number of units sold by the second most popular manufacturer, Samsung. Next, the number of Nokia’s sales figures fell dramatically by just over 200 million units, while Samsung saw remarkable sales rise over the following four years. By 2013, Samsung became the highest market leader, with sales reaching 450 million units.
The other major mobile phone brands from 2009 to 2013 were Apple, LG, and ZTE. In 2009, these companies sold around 125 million phones. However, Apple’s sales increased sharply from over 20 million to around 150 million phones, whereas LG’s sales decreased slightly to just under 50 million units in 2013. As regards ZTE, sales figures rose gradually.
