The bar chart illustrates the amount of carbon that was emitted into the environment from three types of fossil fuel in the United Kingdom over a period of 20 years.
Overall, it is evident that coal released the highest proportion of carbon maintaining similar altitude, while the lowest amount of carbon was generated by the gas in the years from 1990 to 2010. On the contrary, the volume of carbon emissions from oil was the second highest in the same period.
To begin with, in 1990, coal contributed to produce around 320 million tonnes of carbon which was the highest amount compared to other two sources, this figured then reduced by approximately 40 million tonnes to stand at around 280 million tonnes in 1995. After that, this volume reached its initial value in 2000 and remained almost static at the end of the period. On the contrary, gas had the lowest contribution to release the carbon into the environment in 1990, which was about 230 million tonnes.
