The chart gives information on the number of male and female students in Britain in further education in 1970/71, 1980/81, and 1990/91, and whether they were studying full time or part time.
Overall, the number of both female and male part-time students was notoriously higher in the periods given, although the total of full-time students saw an upward tendency. Furthemore, the proportion of men who were studying part time fluctuated compared to that of women which steadily grew.
In terms of full-time education, the sum of men rose about 50 from 1970/71 to 1990/91. The number of female students, however, almost doubled from approximately 100 students to just over 200 between 1970/71 and 1990/91.
As for part-time education, the proportion of male students saw a small decrease in 1980/81, going from exactly 1,000 students in 1970/71 to about 900. It was then followed by a marginal increase of about 50 students in 1990/91. In contrast, the number of femalle students presented an upward tendency rising from about 800 students in 1970/71 to about 1,100 in 1990/91.
