In 1918, just below 80 percent of households rented accommodation, whereas around 23 percent of them owned accommodation. Moreover, the rate of accommodation ownership of households increased from 30 percent in 1939, then reached 50 percent by the end of 1971. Nevertheless, households that rented accommodation experienced a down-going procedure that was approximately 70 percent in 1939 and reached 50 percent in 1971.
Furthermore, the percentage of families that rented accommodation continued to decrease until reached its peak of 30 percent in 2001. Then, increased to approximately 35 percent by the end of the period. Interestingly, the percentage rate of households that owned accommodation experienced an opposite trend. It soared until around 70 percent and then decreased and became 65 percent in 2001 and 2011 respectively.
