The information on the proportion of men and women teaching in six various educational settings of the UK in 2010 is provided in the bar chart.
In general, a higher percentage of female teachers worked in Nursery/Pre-school, Primary and Secondary school than that of males, while the reverse was observed in Private training institute and University. But College had the same number of both gender members. Additionally, the most significant gender gap was reported in Nursery/Pre-school and Primary school.
With regarding to types of school, Nursery/Pre-school and Primary school were mainly female-dominant settings. Former mentioned institution consisted of about 95% women and only 5% men. Similarly, such trend with a noticeable disparity had been experienced in the latter school, to be more specific, nearly 90% of workforce was females and the remaining males. However, in Secondary school, the gender gap narrowed, the figures for male and female teachers were around 43% and 57% respectively.
Looking to other settings, it was College where equal number of men and women worked as a teacher. Private training institute showed a trend which was as exact as Secondary school, but it was male-dominant . The proportion of male teachers highlighted its dominance with 70%, that was considerably higher than that of females ( constituting 30%).
