The bar chart illustrates how many men and women worked as teachers across a range of educational institutions in the United Kingdom in 2010. It is measured in percentages.
Overall, it is evident that females dominated in the early stages of education, such as nursery / pre-school and primary school, accounting for over 90 percent of the teachers. Despite this fact, the fraction of male educators in university exceeded twice the fraction of female ones. In other educational institutions there was not a large gender gap. In particular, women sligthly outnumbered men in secondary school, whereas there was an opposite situation in private training institutes. As for college teachers, it was the same proportion of males and females.
To sum up, the sex ratio varied greatly among different types of educational setting so that women constituted the vast majority of the early childhood and primary school teachers while men made up most of the secondary and tertiary school educators.
