Overall, the largest part of the water is used for agricultural purposes in Central Asia, South East Asia, Africa, and South America, while in North America and Europe, it is aimed mainly at industry. Meanwhile, water used for domestic reasons constituted a negligible amount in all six parts of the world.
In detail, the amount of water used for household purposes in Central and South East Asia is equal, comprising only 7% of the total water consumption in these areas. In Central Asia, Africa, and South East Asia, the proportion of water utilization for agriculture was higher than 80%, with 88%, 84%, and 81% of the total, respectively, while the number that represents it in South America is only about 10% lower than those areas, making 71% of the total.
Furthermore, the percentage, which depicts water consumed for industry in Europe and North America, made the highest contribution to the water consumption in these zones, constituting almost half of it (53% and 48% respectively), whilst it is the smallest part of the water utilization in South America, at 10%. Meanwhile, the proportion, which represents the water that is utilized in households, is 15%.
