The chart compare the average number of hours of unpaid work done per week by married men and women in different family situations.
Overall, it is clear that married women spends much more time doing unpaid work than married men, and the amount of work increases sharply when the number of children increases. In contrast, the hours of unpaid work for men almost remain unchanged in all categories.
Married women with no children do around 30 hours of unpaid work every week, while men do only about 18 hours. When couples has one or two children, the number of hours for women rises significantly to around 50, while the hours for men stay almost the same.
For families with three or more childrens, the difference becomes even bigger. Married women have to do nearly 60 hours of unpaid work per week, which is about three times than their husbands, who only do around 17 hour on average.
