The bar chart illustrates the data on the percentage of women going to university in five countries in 1980 and 2015.
Overall, in some countries, such as Australia and France, the percentage of female school-leavers going to higher education facilities remained the same, or increased marginally. However, in other countries, the increase was significant, compared with the stats in 1980.
The percentage of Australian’s women applying for universities was just under 60% in 1980, and remained the same in 2015, whereas in France, in 1980, the index was 50%, and approximately 55% in 2015.
Other countries have experienced a significant rise in the number of undergraduates who are planning to go into higher education. In the United Kingdom it was around 20%, roughly 35% in 1980 and approximately 55% in 2015. The United States of America indexes in 2015 were almost identical to the indexes in Australia. However, in 1980, only approximately 38% of females were planning to go to university. In South Korea, the percentage of women going into higher education facilities was the least one, not only in 1980, but also in 2015, with the number of roughly 15% and 30%, in 1980 and 2015 respectively.
