The bar chart illustrates the proportion of spending on goods and services in a specific country between 1995 and 2005.
Overall, although the food and beverage sector dominated in 1995, it followed a downward trend along with other goods and services. Transport had the lowest figures in both years and recorded a similar upward trend to housing, which exhibited the highest percentage of household expenditure in 2005, overtaking food and beverage’s position.
In 1995, people tended to spend the most on food and drinks, at around 32%, then the figure for them reduced slightly to approximately 22% in 2005. Other goods and services accounted for exactly 25% in 1995, with their expenditure share declining to about 22% in 2005.
In the remaining categories, the share of housing spending was roughly 27%, before increasing to just under 35% at the end of the period, making it the highest figure among all sectors. Following a similar trend, the lowest percentage of expenditure was recorded in transport, with its figure rising from 15% in 1995 to around 20% in 2005.
