In general, it can be seen from the chart that for Yemen’s population, there will be a upward trend in the proportion of young people started at 46.3% in 2000 and is expected to rise sharply to 57.3% in 2050. While the proportion of non-productive ages, which include children, is predicted to drop significantly to 37.0%, and the elderly population will grow slightly to 5.7%, gradually increase by expected year 2050.
By contrast, the trend in Italy will be the opposite. Italy had 61.6% of its population in the 15-59 age group, while the elderly population has experienced a rapid, rising from 24.1% to 42.3%. Both the 15-59 and the 60+ age groups are expected to have almost the same proportion, at 46.2% and 42.3%, respectively, and the younger generation is expected to fall by 3% in 2050.
