In general, there were significant changes in the use of energy types. Natural gas and coal saw an increase , while the oil and nuclear experienced a decline, with oil remaining the primary source of energy over the period.
From 1985 to 2003 the share of coal and natural gas rose from 8% and 22% to 22% and 23%, respectively. Although, the use of non-renewable sources increased only slightly, this was mainly due to a rise in other renewable energy sources from 1% in 1985 to 4% in 2003.
The proportion of oil was 52% in 1985 which is then decreased by 13% in 2003, while nuclear saw a decline from 22% in 1985 to 8% in 2003. The percentage of hydro remained stable at 4% over the given period of time.
