In 1965 most money went to food (35%). Housing was the second biggest expense (20%). Healthcare was 9%, clothing was 18%, transportation was 7%, and other things were 3%.
In 2015 the biggest part of spending was housing (35%), the same as food in 1965. Food went down to 10%. Healthcare increased to 25%, and transportation also went up to 15%. Clothing became only 5%, and other spending was 5%.
These charts show that people now spend more on services like housing and healthcare and less on food and clothes than before.
