The line chart illustrates the percentage of households that had an electrical appliances, and also depicts the average time spent in doing housework in a week, in a particular country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, we observe that, since 1920, the number of houses with electrical equipment has been increasing. Conversely, the amount of hours utilized for washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning has been dropping significantly. In addition to this, the sales of Refrigerators have increased drastically.
On closer examination, we find that in 1920 almost none of the houses owned a fridge. However, later the demand was so high that by the start of 1980, every house owned this appliance. In the beginning, the families that had a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine was 40% and 30% respectively. Moreover, in 1960, this was close to 60%, for both products. In 2000, Vacuum cleaners were nearly seen to be present in every home.
In 1920, out of 168 hours in a week 50 hours was used to do housework. After this interestingly, there has been a drop in this figure. As a result, in 1960 it was 1200 minutes, and in 2019 it was exactly half of it.
