The pie charts below depict the sales of five types of books by a bookshop during the period of 40 years.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the amount of adult and children’s fiction books in a bookshop, while the opposite was true in the figure of biography, travel and others. Adult fiction contributed the largest segment of sales at the end of the period, meanwhile the data of biography experienced the smallest proportion.
In 1972, adult and children’s fiction had the same amount of sales, at precisely one-fifth. However, adult fiction witnessed a significant climb in book sales, accounting for nearly a half of the pie chart in the last year. There was also a slight increase of 5% in the amount of books sold of children’s fiction throughout the period.
Although biographies made up 20% of the books sold in the first year, this data dropped sharply to only 8% in the last year. Other kinds of books also decreased gradually from a quarter to just over 10% after 40 years. The number of travel books sold increased slightly in 1992 but fell to only 10% in the last year of the period.
