The three given pie charts compare the proportion of different genres of books sold by a bookseller in the years 1972,1992 and 2012.
It is readily obvious that “Adults’ fiction” witnessed a significant growth over the period, becoming by far the most favorite book category in the final year. Meanwhile, there was a downward trend in the percentage distribution of three genres including travel, biography and others.
Regarding to “Adults’ fiction”, it accounted for a fifth of total book turnover in 1972. After that, the figure increased gradually to 25% in 1992 prior to reaching the peak of 45% in the last year of the period. Similarly, 20% of book sales in 1972 was generated from “childrend’s fiction”. Over 40 years, the proportion of this type underwent a steady climb of 5% to finish at 2nd place with 25%.
When it comes to “others” category, it was the bestselling kind of book in 1972, comprising a quarter of total bookseller’s revenue in 1972 until the figure of it decreased rapidly in the 20 next years to end the period with only 12%. That of “travel” and ” biography” were 15% and 20% respectively in the beginning the year. However, the figure for “travel” experienced a marginal rise to 18% while the percentage of “biography” drop to 15% in 1992. Finally, the figure of “travel” went down to 10% in 2012 in spite of seeing an increase 20 years ago and that of “biography” came last with just 8% of total.
