The pie charts show the percentage of food budget the average family spent on restaurant meals, compared to home cooking in different years. While the line graph shows the number of meals eaten in fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants.

Overall, people prefer cooking at home over eating from restaurants, and when they order from a restaurant, they prefer fast food over sit-down restaurant.

At 1970, the percentage of food budget spent on restaurants meals was only 10%, then it slightly increased at 1980 to 15%. After that, between 1990 and 2000 it increased almost 15% each decade to become 50%.

On the other hand, at 1970 the number of meals eaten per year in a restaurant, (fast food or sit-down) was only 20, then it slightly increased for both to around 25 for sit-down restaurant and almost 35 to fast food restaurant.

However, between 1990 and 2000 the fast food increased sharply to become almost 85 meals per year, while sit-down restaurants slightly increased each decade to become around 50 meals per year.
