The pie charts compare the proportion of tourists that chose among four types of accommodation in 1988, 1998, and 2008.
Overall, staying with family was the most popular type throughout the period. Additionally, the proportion of visitors choosing to rent an apartment or stay in a hotel increased steadily, whereas while the opposite was true for the remaining types of accommodation.
Regarding the more popular types of accommodation, in both 1988 and 1998 almost half of the visitors stayed with family, while the figure for hotels rose slightly from 15% to 22% during the same period. In the following decade, the proportion of visitors staying at hotels remained unchanged, whereas that of staying with family declined significantly by 10 percent over the same time.
Concerning the remaining categories, in 1988 only about 7% of travelers chose to rent an apartment, but after two decades this figure had increased dramatically, reaching nearly one quarter of the total visitors in 2008. In contrast, although camping accounted for 26% in 1988, it decreased significantly to only about 10% of the total share by the end of the period.
