The pie charts illustrate the European expenditure on different five commodities and services, namely housing, food, clothing, transport, entertainment, and luxury goods in 19858 and 2008.
Overall, while there was a decrease in the proportion of spending on entertainment and clothing, and food, the opposite was true for the remaining services. In addition, it was also notable that housing had the highest percentage of spending in both years. Meanwhile, transport had the lowest percentage of spending in 19858, but it surpassed the entertainment in 2008.
As can be seen in the chart, the expenditure of people in Europe on housing stood at 22% in 1958, after which it experienced a slight rise to 32% in 2008. A similar change can be seen in the figures for transport and luxury goods, which rose slightly to 17% in the next fifty years. Meanwhile, the share of spending on clothing was quite similar in both years at around 18%.
Regarding the remaining commodities and services, about 32% of budget was spent on food by European in 1958, followed by a significant decline to 20% fifty years later. The figure for entertainment saw a similar change, dropped marginally by 7% during the fifty years.
