The bar charts compare the number of minutes people spent reading and listening every day, according to their age. Overall, listening to music was realtively common among all age groups, particularly among the young, while the interest in reading for entertainment grew continuously over time. The figure for time spent on both activities was almost the same among people who were aged over 35.
As for the people aged from 15 to 34, the difference between time spent on reading and listening is considerable. The youngest group, 15 – 24-year-olds, spent 80 minutes listening to music each day, four times as high as the time spent on reading. The figure for time spent by people aged 25-34 on listening and reading was an hour and 35 minustes, respectively.
Focusing on older people, the gap narrows slightly. People who were aged 35-44 spent 45 minutes on both these activities, while people between the ages 45 and 54 spent a few minutes more on listening to music than reading, 60 and 50 minutes in turn. Likewise, people over the age of 55 engaged in listening during 75 minutes each day and spent 70 minutes reading.
