Overall, it is clear that the number of total UK demand and UK production has decreased while the figure of import has increased from 1970 to 2000.The total UK demand has the largest value throughtout the period.At the same time, employment in the steel industry experienced a dramatic decline across the three decades.
Commencing with the total UK demand,the figure of it has declined over the first decade from 200000 to nearly 180000 while it has decreased over the second decade to more than 100000.By 20000,it has stayed unchanged in 100000.Despite the decline,the figure of it was still the largest throughtout the period.The similar trend can also be found in UK production.Over the first second decade,it has decreased significantly from nearly 170000 to 80000 while it has remained stable over the thired decade.
By contrast,the number of import has increased from 10000 in 1970 to 50000 in 1980 while it stayed unchanged over the second decade .By 2000,it has showed a growth to 80000,nearly equalling that for UK production in 2000.Meanwhile, steel industry employment dropped substantially from 50,000 workers in 1970 to roughly 16,000 in 2000.
