The given illustration depicts the production of perfume. Overall, it involves three steps, which are extracting aromatic oil from plants, condensing the vapour obtained, and lastly separating fragrant oil from the mixture.
To begin with, plants having fragrance are put in a container where steam is supplied from the bottom. This steam is generated from another container, where water is boiled by fire to produce it. As hot steam goes through the aromatic plants, it heats the plants, and make the oil stored in the plants vapour. The mixture obtained in this stage is the combination of plant oil and water steam.
After that, the mixture goes through a condenser to become a mix of water and essential oil. The condenser is a device which contains a system of tubes surrounded by cold water, which going in from the below and going out at nearly the top of the device. Consequently, the mixed liquid from the previous step is flown to a separator where essential oil is extracted from from a pipe attached to the separator at a high position, and the aromatic water, which is called hydrolat, runs out from the lower one.
