The illustration below depicts the process of manufacturing sugar from sugar cane.
The 7 step process starts with cultivation of sugar cane and ends with production of sugar. This is achieved by turning the said crop into sugarcane juice and then finally into sugar. The process shows two slightly different paths that can be taken in order to make sugar.
The procedure starts with cultivating sugar cane crop which takes 12-18 months to grow. It is then harvested either by the use of a machine or by hand. Then the collected harvest is crushed by a machine which results in sugar cane juice.
At step 4, the juice is purified with the use of a limestone filter. The purified liquid is then put in an evaporator that heats the juice which becomes syrup.
The resultant syrup is put into a centrifuge that seperates sugar crytals from syrup. The seperated crystals are then dried and cooled in a container. This results in sugar.
