The flowchart illustrates the different stages of producing electricity from coal.
Overall, the process of electricity production from coal involves three stages: Coal excavation and gasification, generating electricity from gas turbines, and generating electricity from steam turbines.
The first step starts by excavation and collecting of coal, which is then transferred to a furnace. Inside the furnace, oxygen is added to the coal and heated to a high temperature to form slag and raw syngas. Subsequently, the raw syngas is purified by removing carbon dioxide, mercury, and sulfur. Having been purified, the syngas is then pumped into a gas turbine. The gas flow rotate the turbine which in turn operates the generator producing electricity.
The third stage encompasses the production of electricity from steam. First, the hot exhaust gases released from the gas turbines are pumped into a Heat Recovery Stream Generators. Inside this generator, the hot gases are used to evaporate water and form steam. After that, the steam is pumped into a steam turbine rotating the turbine and the generator resulting in electricity production.
