The illustration shows how food is produced in the United States.
Overall, there are nine stages in this process. It starts with the production of meat, fish and vegetables, and finishes when people eat the prepared food at restaurants or at home.
First, the main food materials come from three different sources: fishing, agriculture and farming. These materials are collected and sent to a factory. In the factory, they are processed into food products. After that, the processed food is transported to a distribution centre.
Next, the food is delivered to either restaurants or retail stores. If it is sent to restaurants, cooks prepare the food before it is served to customers. People can eat the food at their tables or from a buffet. On the other hand, if the food is delivered to retail stores, people buy it and take it home. They cook the food themselves before eating it. In the end, both ways finish with people consuming the prepared food.
