The given picture illustrates the cultivation of pineapples and producing three different types of pineapple products.
Overall, before being processed, pineapples have to go through sophisticated farming methods, requiring appropriate environmental conditions and chemical treatment as well. The second phase is divided into three parts based on pineapple sizes so as to produce food and beverage, or for exportation.
Beginning with the farming stage, pineapples are arranged consecutively with a 26 cm distance between each. Under 23-30 degree Celcius, pineapples are exposed to sunshine during the first 7 months, when their crowns gradually grow. In the next 5 months, they are sprayed with ethylene. Finally, the average size of pineapples which are ready to be harvested is around 30cm long, and weighs about 2kg.
Subsequently, pineapples are classified into 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. Small and medium-sized pineapples undergo a relatively similar process, with their crowns being removed and their skin being peeled off. However, the small fruits are extracted to make juice, while the medium ones are sliced into smaller pieces to produce canned fruit. In addition, the large pineapples are covered by wax before being packed in crates so as to be exported to other consumers by ships .
