The diagram depicts the layout of a modern landfill designed for household waste. Overall, we can observe the three stages used for managing the waste which includes construction, use and closure.
To begin with, first the deep man made hole is constructed until it reaches the layer of rocks. Second, the synthetic substances and a lining of clay is added along with drainage pipes and tank which are installed over the layer of clay. This is done to secure the pipes and tank firmly.
Next, the household waste is collected and dumped into the hole. We can observe from the third picture that during the decompostion process, the rubbish generates liquid and is drained in the drainage tank. Any gas released from it will be vented out through the pipes. The final process is covering the rubbish with another layer of clay to prevent contamination.
The diagram so far is well designed and shows how effectivelt waste can be handled.
