The process involves a structure which is situated on a cliff or sea wall consisting of a large chamber. The end of which is open to allow the water to pass through it and the other end of the chamber runs vertically with its end open to the atmosphere. A turbine is installed in the centre of the column for generating electricity in two phases.
In the first diagram, the electricity generation process starts, when the sea level rises and the waves are forced into the chamber applying pressure on the air which passes through the column. The air escapes into the atmosphere with a turbine rotating in the meantime to produce electricity.
Conversely, in the second diagram electricity is produced with retreating waves, when the waves return to the sea leaving the chamber, air from the atmosphere is sucked in to pass through the column making the turbine rotate again. As a result, electricity continues to be generated. The turbine rotates in the same direction regardless of the airflow.
Hence, the above structure is quite useful as it creates electricity with both high and low sea levels to ensure a non-interrupted supply.
