The diagrams detail the location of a volcano on a specific island and the changes that occurred in a nearby village before and after an volcanic eruption.
Overall, it is readily apparent that the volcanic eruption leads to significant destruction to the settlement. Most notably, the western part of the village, including several residential buildings, was completely overtaken by a massive lava flow.
In the “before” stage, the area was relatively simple in design, with the majority of the land dedicated to an eastern area for residential use. The eastern side of the area was entirely occupied by two main groups of houses arranged around small lakes and surrounded by palm trees.
In the “after” stage, however, the eruption dramatically changed the landscape. A massive lawa flowed from the crater down the sea, destroying the houses and trees directly in its path. While the eastern houses remained intact, the central area was buried under the volcanic material.
