The diagrams illustrates the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
Generally speaking, the salmon fish increases in size as it develops ,and at every stage ,it moves from one water type to another. it has three developmental stages, from the young fry to smolt and lastly the adult salmon.
The female salmon fish layers it’s eggs in the upper river, in the mist of reeds and small stones to protect them from predators. The eggs incubates for approximately five to six months, after which, it hatched into a fry, which is just three to eight cm long .The fry gradually finds it’s way to the lower river , that has fast waves, and it houses there for another 4 years until it matures into a smolt , which is bigger in size with 12 to 15 cm long. The smolt further migrates to a bigger water body ,and stays in the open sea for roughly additional 5 years.
It then grows into an adult salmon which has a length of 70 to 76 cm, far bigger than the smolt with 60cm. When the adult salmon becomes mature enough to produce eggs, it heads back to the upper river where it can layer her eggs. They continues in this cycle till maturity.
