The given bar graph shows the percentage of total travelers, who were using various types of transportation such as bus, car, bike and foot to travel to and from work in a European city during the period from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, car was the most popular means of transport amongst European population and it had had a tendency to rise significantly over the time period, while bike and walking had a decreasing trend .
In the year of 1960, car was the least common means of transportation, which was around 7% used by people. Over the forty years, more than 35% of citizens who were using car had grown up steadily until the year of 2000. On the contrary, the Europeans who chose to walk to their destination was 34% in 1960. And after 40 years, the folk was becoming less interested in walking. The number had fallen sharply to only 9%.
The other two modes of transportation, a quarter of population preferred using bike rather than bus in 1960 . There was a gradual decrease in the percentage of bike and it was just about 5% in 2000. Whereas, bus was preferred by only 17% of Europeans in 1960 and the number was climbing to 25% in 1980 before going down to 15% in the year of 2000.
