Most of the surrounding land was covered by forest, whereas a large area of farmland occupied the south. In addition, only a limited number of roads connected different parts of the town.
Today, the town has a very different appearance. A school has been constructed in the centre, with several shops located nearby. In addition, many apartment blocks have replaced open land, particularly in the northern and southern parts of Springer, although one area of houses still remains in the south-east. Furthermore, an airport has been established in the north-east corner. While some woodland is still present, much of the original forest has given way to new buildings and roads.
