Tourist Arrivals of Five Countries
The graph above shows the number of tourist arrivals in five different countries. The horizontal axis shows the number of tourists in millions and the vertical axis represents the years. The five countries mentioned on the graph are Brazil, Egypt, Malaysia, France, and USA.
We see a clear distinction between the USA, France, and Malaysia. On the other hand, Brazil and Egypt have more or less the same number of tourist arrivals. The number of tourist arrivals to Malaysia shows a stable rise. From 20 million in 1995 to 40 million in 2010, the number has doubled in 15 years. In contrast, France has also shown a great rise. The number of tourist arrivals to France has grown rapidly between the years 1995 to 2000, the number doubled in just 5 years. The single country in which we see a fall is the USA. Though the numbers have increased from 1995 to 2000, and another increase between 2000 and 2005, there is a decrease in the number of tourist arrivals. Both France and the USA have the same number of tourist arrivals in the year 2010, 80 million tourists.
On the lower part of the graph, we see Brazil and Egypt are constantly racing each other. Both countries have similar rates of increase. Brazil started the year 1995 just below Egypt and ended the year 2010 above Egypt.
In conclusion, We see a pattern in people’s choices. Western countries are welcoming more tourists every year. On the other hand, countries in other continents like Asia or Africa, though having a stable growth rate in the number of tourist arrivals, are chosen less by tourists.
