Overall, the total job numbers in all four sectors changed significantly over the 60 years. While healthcare and retail experienced a rapidly upward trend, manufacturing and agriculture showed a continuous decline.
In 1960, manufactoring was the largest sector with 15 million jobs, this rose dramatically and reach to peak at 20 million in 1980, then entering a steady downward to 13 million by 2020. On the other hand, reatail and started at 6 million jobs and continued grew to 10 million in 1980, 15 million in 2000 and finally reached 16 million in 2020.
On the contrast, agriculture, which began with 6 million in 1960, dropped sharply to 3 million by 1980 and 2000, continuded to declide to end the period at 2 million. Healthcare, tarting as the smallest sector with 2 million positions in 1960, has ben rise dramatically 5 million and 12 million before further climbing to match the reach at 15 million in 2000.
