The line chart depicts information about how many jobs in manufacturing, retail, agriculture, and healthcare sectors in the US from 1960 to 2020. Overall, it can be seen that manufacturing was the most chosen job until 2000 before overtaken by other sectors. Moreover, the trends were quite varied.
To begin with, in 1960, manufacturing led predominantly with 15 million jobs. Although the number peaked at 20 million in 1980, the following trend was declining dramatically until 2020, reaching only below its number in the beginning, approximately 13 million. Additionally, agriculture began with around 6 million. Its figure kept falling gradually throughout the period, ending up as the lowest occupation.
However, retail and healthcare had different patterns. Retail started with the same number as agriculture. It was going up during the period, reaching the highest point at the end of the period, roughly 16 million. On top of that, healthcare was the least popular job at the beginning, just under 5 million. The number rose significantly until the final period. Both of them accounted for the same number, leading the figures by the end of the period.
