As for countries with significant fluctuations, the prices of bananas in Japan initially ranked first at shy of 2 dollar per kilogram in 1994, after which it jumped to a peak of around 2.9 dollar per kilogram. Then, it dropped dramatically in 1996, and hovered around the range of 2 dollar and 2.3 dollar until 2001, when it hit a low of just 1.6 dollar in 2001, with a subsequently final increase to end at above 2.5 dollar. The figure for France, on the other hand, remained stable at approximately 1.7 dollar during the first half of the period, then fluctuated remarkably before reaching a bottom of 1 dollar in 2003, followed by a considerable rise to the starting level in 2004.
The prices of bananas in Germany and the USA was much lower. While the former fluctuated between 1.2 dollar and 1.5 dollar marks from the beginning to the year 2002, the stayed unchanged at 1.5 dollar until 2004, the latter rose suddenly from 0.9 dollar to 1.2 dollar and maintained at this level until the end of the period, despite a slight fall in 1997.
