The given line graph illustrate the consumption of US energy, namely petrol and oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower from 1980 to 2020, with prediction until 2030.
Overall, fossil fuel, coal and natural gas had an increasing trend over the 40 years period and will continue to rise in the next decade. Whereas nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower were observed to remain relatively stable throughout the period, and projected to remain the same by 2030.
In 1980, the energy consumption of fossil fuel was around 35 quadrillion units, and a fluctuation was observed until 1995, before continuing to rise at about 40 units and predicted to exceed to approximately 50 units by 2030. However, coal and natural gas showed an identical patten, increasing from just over 15 units in 1980 to over 25 units in 2020. By 2030, coal will climb further to nearly 30 while natural gas will remain constant to over 25.
On the contrary, nuclear, solar/wild and hydropower remained relatively steady by under 5 units over the four decades, and will continue to remain constant by 2030.
