The graph illustrates how much emission was released via three specific sources in the UK from 1990 to 2005, measuring in millions of tonnes (MT). Overall, while air pollutants from transport increased, those from households and industry experienced decreases of varying degrees, with the most prominent change being seen in the latter. It is also reported that transport ended up as the one emitted the most polluted air.
Looking first at the amount of air from industry and transport, the former commenced the period with approximately 6 MT, 5 MT higher than the corresponding figure for the latter, at 1 MT. Subsequently, there was a gradual drop to 2 MT after 15 years in the emission amount from industry, losing its dominance. An opposite change, to a smaller extent, was observed in the data of transport, rising significantly and reaching the parity of that of industry in 2002. Afterwards, it displaced industry to become the one with the highest amount of polluted air by rising to 3 MT in the last year.
Turning to households’ emission amount, starting and remaining at the same level with transport for the period lasting for 9 years, it was followed by a moderate drop to 0, resulting in being the least pollutants recorded in 3 sources in 2005.
