The bar graph illustrates the rate of female unemployment in the four countries of the UK ( England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland ) in 2013 and 2014.
Overall, it is noticeable that the proportion of unemployed women showed a downward trend in most of the countries, except in Scotland, which experienced an opposite trend. Although England recorded the highest figure at the beginning of the period, Scotland’s rate surpassed that of England in the following year.
With regard to the female unemployment rate in England, it began at 6.8% in 2013 and then decreased slightly to 6.5% in 2014. Likewise, the percentage of women who were looking for jobs in Wales declined marginally from 5.4% to 5.0% between 2013 and 2014. Following a similar pattern, Northern Ireland experienced a considerable drop of 1% in 2014.
On the other hand, an opposite trend could be observed in Scotland, where the figure increased moderately from 6.1% to 6.7% over the period, representing the highest figure among the four countries.
