Overall, while the number of students who took Mandarin experienced a marked increase, the opposite was true for those of French. In comparison, it can be seen that a lot of 13-year-olds have been choosing to study Mandarin,but French is still the most popular option.
In 2000, the average students who opted for French were 150 compared to those of Mandarin. Over the next 5 years, it plummeted by 85. In 2006, French gained some popularity and then remained unchanged at about 90 students.
According to the data, Mandarin has increased sharply during the period given. Starting at under 20 in 2000, it then soared and reached its peak at 75 in 2005. After that, the number slightly dropped and then fluctuated before returning to 75
