Overall it can be seen that the number of visitors who are foreign came for holiday, meeting friends and relatives increased fluctuatingly whereas the purpose of holiday and Business increased enormously. Further, holiday tourists in the UK were the highest value over the entire period.
Looking at the chart in more detail it is clear that the numbers of overseas visitors who came to the UK for holiday stood at 6.5 millions in 1989. By 2009, it had increased to about 9 million which was the highest value in the chart, but after that fell dramatically and reached 6.5 million in 2004. By 2009, the number of travellers picked up again and again reached a high of 9 million.
Turning to the remaining data set in mone detail it is evident that business and socializing trips to the UK showed almost similar trends, starting from 3.5 million which is the lowest value in the chart and 5 million respectively in 1989. By 2009, it had rapidly increased to about 7 million and 8 million respectively. After that a fall in the number of visitors can be seen in both these cases.
