Overall, Both closed and opened shops experienced a decrease, even though in 2011 closed shops were smaller than the opened shops, the number of closed shops surpassed the opened shops in 2018.
In 2011, the number of shops that opened and closed stood at 8500 and 6500 respectively. Until 2012, there was a slight decrease in the number of closed shops to 6000 units, and the number of opened shops decreased to 4000 units. Until 2014, both types of shops saw a gradual increase, accounting for slightly above 6000 units in both groups.
Interestingly, in 2015, the closed shops dropped to the lowest point at about 1000 units, while the number of opened shops was the same as in 2012 (4000 units). However, shops that closed witnessed a significant rise in 2016, reaching 5000 units, and remained stable until 2018. Whereas, the opened shops plummeted to the lowest point at 3000 units in 2018.
