In 1992, approximately 100,000 women graduated from Canadian universities. This figure increased slightly over the following three years, before falling back to around 100,000 in 1998. Thereafter, the number of female graduates increased substantially, reaching just under 150,000 by 2006, before experiencing a slight decline in the final year.
The number of male graduates, meanwhile, stood at approximately 70,000 in 1992. It rose to just over 75,000 in 1995, but subsequently declined slightly to around 70,000 in 1998. From that point onwards, the figure followed a steady upward trajectory, reaching approximately 95,000 by the end of the period.
