Overall, what stands out from the graph is the downward trend of the ratio of manufacturing and agriculture while the figure for mining and services witnessed an upward trend. In addition, the service industry accounted for the highest figure in the span of 50 years.
From 1962 to 2012, services, and mining were the development industries where the services industry exceeded the other. Over 50% workforce in services in 1962, then gradually increased before reaching a peak at 80% in 2012. Similarly, the mining industry saw a slight increase which started from 0% and then underwent a fluctuation before ending at approximately 2%. Besides that, the plateau of the workforce in the construction industry experienced around 10%.
In the same period, agriculture and manufacturing experienced a downward trend. Despite the decline, manufacturing industries continue to stand at the second highest figure, which commenced at around 30%, then down to 20% in 1982 and reached 10% in 2012, 8 times lower compared to the highest figure. Likewise, approximately 10% of employees in agriculture in 1962, this figure decreased gradually in the given period and hit a low of 2% in 2012.
