The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over across the ages (from 1940 until 2040) in three different countries (Japan, Sweden and USA).
Overall, population of people aged 65 and over, remained with low levels for around 20 years and eventually increased over the years. According to the estimation, the elderly population will sharply increase around 2030s for all three countries.
In Japan, older people population graph began at 5% in 1940 and decreased for around 2% until gradually rising after 1980s to 10% in around 2030s. An estimation proposes that Japan’s graph will rise sharply in 2030s.
USA almost doubled Japan’s percentage at the starting point with 9% of elderly people population in 1940. USA had reached its first factual peak in 1960 with solid 15% but gradually declined. The estimation proposes USA’s graph steadily increasing after their second peak in around 2020s. Sweden is halfway between Japan and USA with initial level of around 7%. Sweden has insignificant falls across the years, but still remained factual leader, reaching the highest peak of 20% around 2010s. After a short decline, Sweden will also estimately grow in percentage after 2020s.
