The chart illustrates the amount of money in US (in millions of dollars) was allocated in different types of investment in funds, including property, gold, fine art and company shares during the period between 1988 and 2014.
Overall, all four categories of investment in funds experienced growth over the period. In addition, investment funds in gold witnessed the most dramatic increase.
In1988, about 50 millions of dollars was invested in property and company shares, while this figure were 75 millions spent on fine art and 100 million on gold. In 18 years later, the value of investment in fine art and gold fluctuated and stood at 100 and 180 millions of dollars, respectively. In contrast, property investment funds saw a slightly increase to 100 million of dollars, while this figure in company shares grew rapidly to more than 200 millions of dollars.
From 2006 to 2024, the amount of money invested in gold was the highest, reaching its peak at 450 million in 2012 before went down in the final years of the period. Likewise, fine art experienced a considerable increase from 100 to about 330 millions of dollars. Meanwhile, the value of investment in company shares and property only grew more than around 50 millions of dollars since 2006.
