Two pie charts are shown in the figure. They report the weekly expenses of 2010, respectevly of UK and US inhabitants.

From a first glance, it is clear that most of the fields are equal: the percentage relative to DVDs, transport and leisure are perfectly equal. A slightly different value is for books, with a major expense in US: some might think that this can be index of the average cultural level, but it may just be about a little difference in book’s prices or VAT about them.

The main differences are about food and rent. Indeed, the rent expenses are much smaller in US, clearly because of a higher spread of residences and single houses, especially in the countryside. On the other hand, in US there’s a trend to spend many more in food and this is known, as well, since in America there’s a radicated culture of junk food, unfortunately, that especially today is gaining ground among new generations.
