The given line chart illustrates the percentage of the elderly population in Japan, U.S.A. and Sweden between 1940 and 2040.
Overall, it is clear that the proportion of aged population is increasing in all countries, however to a different degree. Additionally it can be seen that, the trend of United States and Sweden increasing with fluctuations, while Japan illustrates a completely different growth trend.
Initially, the highest figures of the population over 65 years in 1940 was U.S. with around (a mere of 9%), then comes Sweden with a little more than (5%) and it was then followed by Japan with only (5%). In the next years the shares of USA gradually increased to nearly a quarter and despite the fact that the highest figures was in the USA, statistics shows that USA will lose the lead to Japan in the near future, because, regardless the initial drop, the figures of elderly residents in Japan will compose more than (25%) in 2040. As regard Sweden, so the index of aged people in this country will smoothly rise and constitute evenly 25% in 2040.
