The line graph illustartes the proportion of Southeast Asian residents, who emigrated to the UK using four different types of visas (work permit, student visa, medical visa and family visa) between 2018 and 2024. Units are measured in percentage.
Overall, work permits accounted for the largest proportion at the beginning of the period, however, then they experienced a slight decline before rising again towards the end. Medical visas experienced noticeable fluctuations and eventually reached a peak by the final year. By contrast, student visas plummeted throughout the period, whereas family visas fluctuated and remained the least common category.
In 2018, work permits accounted for approximately 70% of Southeast Asian emigrants. This figure than decreased by 30% to 40% in the middle of the period before rising again and exceeding 70% by the final year. Likewise, medical visas increased significantly and peaked in 2024 at about 90%. Students visas were initially one of the most common categories, however, their proportion fell dromatically to around 60% by the end of the period. Family visas, remained the less developed category, starting at 30% in 2018 and grew up slightly to abot 40% in 2024.
